Appreciate the sentiment and I hate to be a Debbie Downer but if it’s illegal in a country I would definitely avoid partaking in that country. Even in Amsterdam if the authorities would like to cause you inconvenience you may end up in alternative accommodations which may or may not include a visit from the United States state department. A state department representative will be able to send messages to your family I will kindly remind you to obey the laws a foreign country
